Simultaneous submissions are accepted. Please inform us immediately if your work has been accepted somewhere else for publication.
We accept original, unpublished work only.
We particularly encourage and welcome papers from marginalised voices: Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), LGBTQIA+, enby/gender-queer/gender-fluid, neurodiverse, working class, people with a disability, or any other people who would consider themselves marginalised or existing in the margins - we really want to hear from you.
Send your submission to email@example.com with the subject line formatted as such: “Prose submission - title of your piece”
We invite entries that engage with the subject of sex, sex-writing, desire, bodies, shame, pleasure, obscenity, intimacy, transgression, pleasure, gender, the unsaid, the screamed, made in any style or form. You are free to interpret the theme as you wish, though we will favour works that engage with and best reflect the central theme of sex.
Genre and style do not matter, only quality. A science fiction story about sex with aliens has as much place here as a poem about the nature of desire, a painting that toys with representations of the body or a personal essay about the sexual politics of now. We only ask that your work has something to say, moves us, raises our collective pulse.
The grand prize of £300 will be awarded to the winner, whose work can be in any form.
We will award a £50 prize and publication to highly commended entries in each of the following categories: fiction; poetry; non-fiction; image.
Winning, highly commended, and shortlisted entries will be published in the I’ll Show You Mine chapbook.
Selected longlisted entries may also be offered publication.
Entrants may enter a single entry in one of the following categories: Fiction; Poetry; Non-Fiction; Image.*
Send your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line formatted as such: “Prose submission - title of your piece.”
We welcome hybrid or undefinable works. If you are unsure what category to submit in please use this format: “Other submission - title of your piece.”
All entries are judged anonymously. Please do not include your name, address, phone number, email, website, twitter handle etc. in the document or in the title of your submission.
In the body of your email, please include a print-ready, third-person bio and if you wish, a cover letter.
Entrants may withdraw entries from the competition by notifying us via email.
The deadline for entries is 12 midnight (UK time) on 10th July 2019.
* You may make one additional entry by purchasing a £5 entry to I’ll Show You Mine at our shop and FWDing the confirmation email alongside your additional entry. This additional entry can be in any category. These donations will be used to help pay contributors and printing costs.
